{Mentoring} So you got a DSLR for Christmas?

I LOVE photography. Sure, it's how I help provide for my family, but it is a hobby and a passion first and foremost. So when you ask about (or even remotely bring up the topic of) photography, DSLRs, or editing, I am genuinely THRILLED to have the opportunity to talk your ear off.

I'm a year into my own journey, and I'll be the first to tell you I've got a lot left to learn. But I do eat, sleep, and breathe Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO. I see creative composition EVERYWHERE. And I've learned a lot of tricks and tips that can hasten any new-tog's journey to memorable pictures.  So I've seized the opportunity to mentor a couple of budding photographers, and I'm HOOKED.

Case-in-point:

Meet Megan Chase - a girlfriend of mine since grade school and girl scouts.

Megan's appetite for all things photography is so refreshing! We spent two full hours of Q&A over coffee before getting some practice around Reston Town Center in Northern VA. It was super windy, and neither of us could feel our fingers by the end, but it was so much fun! I can't wait to follow her photography journey. You all should too! So if Santa brought you a DSLR for Christmas, or you've been meaning to blow the dust off the one in your closet, give me a shout! I'd love to help you take that puppy off "auto" and show you what it can REALLY do.

In the meantime - What photography questions do you have? I'd love to start a blog mini-series to help us all get better pictures, whether you have a fancy-schmancy camera or rely on the one in your phone!
