{Style} Garden Party Dress by Ellie Inspired

I am SO excited to introduce my photography fan base to my sewing world! And today we're jumping right in to a BLOG TOUR for the new Ellie Inspired Spring Line of PDF Sewing Patterns.

When I was first approached to participate in this tour, the patterns to choose from were merely concepts. I had a vague idea of the pleated skirt, collared bodice, and tie neck... but I couldn't have imagined just how adorable it would actually be!

Grab your sunglasses. The cuteness is BLINDING!

It's a collared, fully-lined button-up bodice, pleated dress with an adorable accent band across the bottom of the skirt. The pattern includes sizes 1-12 (AWESOME range!) and 12 pages of clearly illustrated instructions detailing the dress assembly.

Now, in my year of sewing I've learned one thing for certain: when multiple button holes are involved, it's a good time to UPCYCLE. And lucky for me, hubs had just the work shirt in his "discard" pile. The pink and blue check of the button up perfectly complimented this new line of Kate Spain's Daydream fabric from Moda. (Seriously? I'm in love.

The upcycle option did cause one minor hiccup: I had to skip the bodice lining. I chose to finish the raw edges of the sleeves with an accent binding to match the band across the skirt. I think it ties it in nicely!

Those who skip the upcycle shortcut will enjoy fully enclosed seams - and a perfect professional finish.

In the pattern development process, this pointed collar was swapped out for an equally adorable rounded version. There's even an option for a ruffle trim around the collar.

My only gripe with the original pattern is the length of the necktie. I wanted so desperately to be able to tie it in a little bow! Luckily designer Laura and her amazing group of testers have remedied this in the final pattern and extended it by another 10+ inches. Perfect bow-tying length!

All in all, we're in love with it! Kaelyn was the belle of the playground swinging and sliding in her momma-made get-up :)

Thanks, Ellie Inspired for making my blog a stop on your pattern release tour! And for those Ellie Inspired fans visiting my blog for the first time, be sure to check out some of my popular photography mentoring posts! (Links in the sidebar)
